Space-saving connections for drives, frequency inverters and control cabinets
The Han® industrial connector is the world's leading rectangular connector for harsh environments. The new size 4 opens up new possibilities for manufacturers and operators in machinery and robotics in terms of space savings and sustainability.
Machinery and robotics applications demand ever-increasing power transmission in ever-smaller spaces. Drives, frequency converters and control units must be reliably supplied with energy, even when installation space is extremely limited.
With its new Han® Size 4, HARTING offers space-saving, high-performance connections for machine engineering and robotics applications. The compact housings and inserts transmit currents of up to 70 A while occupying up to 40% less space than the next larger size.

Closing the gap
Han® Size 4 fills a real gap in the market between Han® 3 and Han® 6. On one side, the smaller Han® 3A reaches its limit at 40 A, making it unsuitable for many machine applications where higher currents are required. On the other hand, the next-largest Han® 6B, for example, is simply too large for many installation environments, leaving engineers with no suitable standard solution.
The new Size 4 bridges this gap, providing interfaces that have a small footprint while simultaneously transmitting the high currents that modern machines require. With a supported current of up to 70 A, it meets the demands of drives, frequency converters and other power-intensive components without the risk of overloading the connector. The space saved can be used for the remaining infrastructure, such as cooling or ventilation systems, directly contributing to a more efficient and well-designed machine layout.
Sustainable, flexible and scalable
By reducing the required installation space by up to 50% compared to the next larger size, Han® Size 4 already creates room for additional infrastructure directly at the machine level. This advantage is complemented by efficiency gains in power transmission: the 40 A contacts, which fit into the Han-Eco® Size 4 housings, enable energy savings of around 50%.
This is primarily due to the low impedance of the silver-plated power contacts compared to conventional CEE plugs. These contacts generate significantly less heat during operation, reducing energy losses. Less energy is lost as heat leads to lower operating costs, a reduced thermal load on the overall system and a more sustainable machine design.
Han® Size 4 hoods and housings allow space-saving connections for drives, frequency converters and other equipment in harsh industrial environments. The robust design is built to withstand the demanding conditions found on the machine floor, ensuring long-term reliability even in challenging production environments.
