Charging infrastructure encompasses all technical equipment and services required to supply electric vehicles with electricity, e.g., charging stations, grid connection, billing systems, and software.
Solutions for charging infrastructure
The continuous, demand-oriented expansion of the charging infrastructure is a decisive factor for the acceptance and spread of electric mobility, as it ensures the availability and accessibility of charging options for users. It includes both public and private charging points, for example on streets, in parking lots, at companies, or at home. With a wide range of charging cables of various standards, as well as connection components within the charging station itself, HARTING is making an important contribution to the expansion of electric mobility.
Charging infrastructure: technology, performance, public supply
The charging infrastructure for electric vehicles includes all the equipment needed to charge these vehicles. This includes charging stations and the associated technology. There are various ways to charge an electric car, which differ in terms of charging power and location. While the vehicle is charged at home with alternating current (AC) in the lower power range, public charging stations usually provide high charging capacities in the direct current (DC) range.
Unlike private charging devices (wall boxes), modern public fast charging stations are equipped with complex power and communication electronics to charge electric vehicles in the shortest possible time.
HARTING solutions for charging infrastructure
With standardized charging cables for AC and DC applications and a broad product portfolio, HARTING ensures safe and fast energy and signal transmission and supports its partners in the technical design of various charging systems.
HARTING Automotive's product portfolio encompasses the European Combo Type-2 DC charging interface standard for fast DC charging with a charging capacity of 200 kW. These products have the approvals and certificates relevant for all specific market sectors and legal requirements worldwide. For the charging cables, the type-1 plug for AC (developed for the USA, Japan and South Korea) is certified according to UL, CE and JET / PSE; the type-2 plug for the European market complies with UL/VDE. HARTING's GB China plug fulfills the CQC standard of the Chinese standardisation authority (China Quality Certification Centre).
AC and DC charging cables
Our charging cables are available in different lengths and power ratings. Customized cable assemblies with individually designed open ends ensure maximum flexibility during installation. Additional components for charging sockets round out the charging infrastructure portfolio.
Industrial buses/Ethernet
Powerful communication interfaces ensure fast, secure, and, above all, trouble-free data transmission. This is achieved through excellent EMC properties, which reliably shield the sensitive communication electronics from electromagnetic interference.
Different standards exist side by side
Similar to the situation at petrol stations with different types of fuel, various connection standards coexist for charging stations. Some examples are the CCS (Combined Charging System) with type-1 (Combo 1) or type-2 (Combo 2) plugs, the CHAdeMO charging system, or other standards such as the GB/T standard in China.
Long charging times discourage many car owners from making the switch to electric vehicles. Fast charge technology that uses the DC charging plug (Combo) ensures that vehicles will be supplied with sufficient power in a few minutes rather than a few hours. Almost all of the new concepts for electric cars from the major OEMs rely on powerful fast charging to supplement their conventional charging technology. This ensures better acceptance among motorists and provides electric mobility with a powerful boost.
