Connector size Han® 4: Higher energy density for transport technology

Size 4 is being introduced into HARTING’s major industrial connector ranges: Han® HPR, Han® B and Han-Eco®. With a current-carrying capacity of up to 70 A, these intermediate-size connectors are just as capable as Size 6 solutions. However, thanks to their smaller dimensions, they save valuable installation space.

Less installation space – with the same current-carrying capacity

The new ‘intermediate size’ is in line with current developments in mechanical engineering and transport technology, which require higher power densities. Key criteria for the use of components are robustness, weight and required installation space. The Han® HPR (‘High Pressure Railway’) standard has become established for particularly robust solutions. With this type of housing, size 4 halves the space required on the mounting wall. Compared with Han® 6 HPR, the required footprint on the mounting wall is reduced by 55%. Even when compared with Han® 6 HPR Compact, almost 40% of the installation space is saved.

Significant weight advantages

Han® 4 HPR offers significant weight savings: a Han® 6 HPR connector – including the hood (M25, straight cable entry), mounting housing, screw lock and Han-Modular® articulated frame – weighs a total of 530 g. In the same configuration, the Han® 4 HPR weighs just under 270 g. This is made possible, amongst other things, by using a plastic mounting frame instead of a metal one.

It is important to note that even the lighter version meets the stringent requirements for robustness and protection class in accordance with IP68/IP69 – and is certified to IEC 45545 and UL 1977. Not every application fits within existing module sizes. With size 4, HARTING is filling a gap and expanding its range of connectors for electrification to cover an important area of application. At the same time, the solution takes account of increasing energy density and boosts performance per installation space.
