Field Sales Engineer

Function targets

Function tasks

1 Strategic tasks

1.1 Strategic position

  • Implements the agreed strategy in his/her sales area in line with time, cost and quality requirements. He/she develops a solution offering for his/her market/customers made up of HARTING and non-HARTING products and services, including VAB, that meets customer requirements and provides clear technical and economic added value compared to the competition.
  • He/she analyses the organization and decision-making structures for the customer supply chain and produces an internally coordinated development strategy. Based on his/her knowledge of the requirements, he/she develops new sub-solutions, initiates the development of new products and the creation of specific solution concepts.

  • If he/she possesses specialist knowledge, he/she passes it onto colleagues through training and individual support.

 

2 Operational tasks

2.1 Market & application management

  • Responsible for all HARTING products, solutions and services in the triad as per customers taken over in the sense of "one face to the customer."
  • Market observation, permanent "market screening" to identify existing/future market potential. He/she uses market, competition and sectoral analyses and local technical expertise for the sales process. Through an appropriate number and quality of customer visits, he/she proactively identifies planned customer developments and can derive corresponding solutions or name competent contact partners.

 

2.2 Sales management

  • Customer contact management – produces and implements measures to ensure customer loyalty and new customer acquisition.
  • Acquisition of new customers and launch of new products in line with time, cost and quality requirements as per the strategic goals.
  • Reporting – production of customer reports and "opportunities". Regular customer visits, timely documentation of number and quality in CRM. Production of annual planning.
  • Receipt of quality complaints – professional acceptance and forwarding to the specialist departments.

Reports directly to the Sales Manager concerned. 

The Director Innovation Hub

The Director Innovation Hub will be responsible for orchestrating and directing a small team of innovation-focused engineers, scientists and project managers with the mission of developing ideas for new products and services, engaging with customers and partners, and even seeking out funding and joint venture opportunities to create new value streams for HARTING that encompass new products, new services, and new business models. Deliverables are prototypes with increasing maturity level. The Director will grow and support the team over the long term by seeking out such opportunities and leveraging the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region, and even nationally and internationally.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Leading and continuously developing a team of innovation-focused scientists, engineers and project managers to co-create with external partners

Enables the team to successfully develop new ideas up to an advanced prototype level in collaboration with customers and partners

Actively seeks out opportunities to support the activities of the team through projects, partnerships, external funding, and other mechanisms

Sets up and cultivates methods and tools for an efficient and effective working mode

Encourages new ideas and concept beyond current products and business

Overview, manage and balance the expenses of the innovation hub and its projects

In collaboration with Senior Management, set goals and expectations for the Innovation Hub

Sets goals and expectations for university and other research collaborations associated with the specific Innovation Hub

Communicates results and opportunities on technical and management level

Strong understanding, management and coordination of comprehensive topics and their stakeholders

Files for IP as necessary to protect and enhance HARTING’s IP portfolio

Manages the day to day activities of the innovation team

Responsible for safe operations of all Innovation Hub laboratory spaces as applicable, including all occupational health and safety requirements that could be region-specific as well

Responsible for laboratory equipment and operations

Performs other duties as assigned

Skills / Abilities

Leadership skills

Business skills and acumen including budgeting, financial tracking, program management, and technology ROI assessment and calculations

Fundraising and pitching skills in an entrepreneurial environment

Technical business development skills to sell new projects, products, or services

Technical supervisory experience in small, dynamic, mission-focused teams

Experience with IP management including patents, trade secrets and other methods of IP protection

Ability to forge strategic partnerships with a wide variety of technical and investor stakeholders while preserving HARTING’s interests

Outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Thorough understanding of scientific process and engineering principles

Proficient with all related software programs used for testing and reporting

Education / Qualification

Master’s degree or Ph.D in a technical direction

Basic qualifications in economics

Experience leading a team in a product design and development environment

Very good language skills in local language or English

At a minimum good English skills in writing and speaking

The Senior Innovation Scientist

The Senior Innovation Scientist will focus on bringing new technologies to life through co-creation with partners, creation of functional industrial prototypes and working with early adopter customers to test these prototypes. Deliverables are prototypes with increasing maturity level. The prototype to be created can be significantly different form HARTING’s core business and a large portion of the work will also involve exploring disruptive business models.

The Senior Innovation Scientist is well linked-up with his/her network, has a minimum five years experience in innovating and brings along a distinct entrepreneurial spirit.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Co-create with external partners

Identify, collaborate and partner with strategic partners, research institutions, and other companies

Seek out and develop innovative new products, services and business models that significantly diverge from current HARTING offerings and provide significant upside potential for value creation

Develop forementioned fundamentally different prototypes and disruptive products and services which create new business models and new value streams

Scanning and scouting of new technologies to pursue innovative approaches and applications

Operate with a startup mentality in terms of speed to market, focus on rapid prototyping and testing, and working with early adopter customers as soon as possible to get valuable market feedback

Communicates results and opportunities on technical and management level

Structuring and managing small projects or working bricks, also in an international context

Explore partnerships and possible joint ventures with partner companies, investors, and other strategic stakeholders while preserving HARTING’s IP and strategic business interests

Basic skillset to assess cost structure and revenue streams of a product/business idea

Strong understanding, management and coordination of comprehensive topics and their stakeholders

File for IP as necessary to protect and enhance HARTING’s IP portfolio

Perform other duties as assigned
