New crimping changeover unit from HARTING – Faster processing of turned contacts
The purchase of a semi-automatic or fully automatic crimping machine is worthwhile if large numbers of crimps are required each year. The return on investment in the HARTING changeover unit depends not only on the demand for turned contacts, but also whether automatic crimping machines are already in place. HARTING experts are happy to assist interested parties with data for the relevant calculations.
The HARTING changeover unit can be used to process a total of 34 different contact variants with the above-mentioned cross-sections. HARTING supplies the crimping tool and the contact rollers. This enables fully automatic machines to achieve cycle times of one second (stripping and crimping). With the right fully automatic machines, users can save not only process costs but also personnel costs. Kamil Rezmer, Product Manager Tools at HARTING Electric: “The changeover unit is a sensible investment for cable assemblers and manufacturers who crimp in large numbers, for example in the fields of wind energy and mechanical engineering, automation, and for all customers who already use semi-automatic or fully automatic crimping machines.”
Dirk Teiwes, Teamleader Heavy Duty Connectors, demonstrating the new crimping changeover unit
There are currently two ways of feeding contacts to automatic crimping machines: one involves separating the contacts in vibrating bowls, the other uses specially prepared contact strips that are fed from a reel into the machine. The second method is faster, but until now only strips with stamped contacts were available for this purpose. HARTING has therefore developed a changeover tool for semi-automatic and fully automatic crimping machines that can be used to process high-quality turned Han® contacts on reels. The plastic belt is a new feature: it enables the contacts to be held securely in place and positioned precisely during processing. Corresponding solutions are available for conductor cross-sections from 0.14 to 6 mm². The HARTING changeover unit is suitable for common semi-automatic and fully automatic machines from manufacturers such as Schäfer, Komax, and Schleuniger.
